AWMS x PAPA NUI "ARMSTRONG" CAP
It was back in the summer of 2020 when John from Papa Nui and I first discussed collaborating together, quickly finding a fertile common ground.
Our first co-release, 2022's Congressman & Correspondent bucket hats, built from the notion of the civilian on the battlefield. The Armstrong Cap reverses the formula; finding a serviceman enjoying his leisure time and civilian activities.
In early 1969, Life Magazine dispatched photographer Ralph Morse to Houston to document the Apollo 11 astronauts in preparation for their historic journey to the surface of the moon. He captured the crew at ease in their dens, at the grill and catching up on the Sunday papers.
In one iconic photo, mission commander Neil Armstrong is seen lighting a cigar, resplendent in FG-58 sunglasses and a red four panelled aviator style cap perched on the back of his head.
It is a piece of crucial headgear for the kit that I have always wanted to own, and now thanks to the Papa, you can too. Utilising a beautifully vivid red cotton twill, the Armstrong cap is fully crafted in Japan under the watchful eye of the John Lofgren Company and features superior styling options as well as contrast twill taping and minimal brim stitching consistent with vintage caps of the era. To round out this awesome package, the cap also comes with a Neil Armstrong test pilot identification badge in litho printed tin and another celebrating his testing of the Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar, a supersonic rocket plane designed for space rescue or space interceptor missions to sabotage or destroy enemy Russian Satellites.
