AWMS x YARMOUTH OILSKINS "FLEET" DUFFEL COAT (Tan)

For Autumn/Winter 2025 we have teamed up with our friends at Yarmouth Oilskins to make an indispensable piece of British kit.

The Duffel or Duffle coat has a seafaring heritage almost as old as Yarmouth Oilskins, a seven generation old family company founded on the Norfolk coast as Johnson & Sons Ltd. in the 1850s, as suppliers of waxed overcoats, sails, coveralls and dry goods for the fishing fleets and coastal workforce on the North Sea.

The Royal Navy issued heavy woollen hooded overcoats with toggle and hemp fastenings were issued first to ship bound firefighters and then as regulation foul weather gear for all sailors and crew before the turn of the 20th century. After the Second World War, the oversized jackets held countercultural status as the uniform of the 'Beats' and Anti-War protesters, their utilitarian function taking on a bohemian charm.

The Fleet Duffel takes its hame from river flowing from Hampstead in the North of London, a borough whose inhabitants and artisans served as the source of inspiration for this season's AWMS collection.

Imagined as an outer layering piece, staying true to its oversized and generous proportions, and entirely made in Yarmouth Oilskins' English factory.

We have used heavy duty 'Panama' cotton sailcloth from Lancashire's Brisbane Moss in two colours: a traditional tan in keeping with its military history and washed black colour way. Wooden toggles and rope fastenings are completed with branded Yarmouth Oilskins brass buttons at the neck and cuff, and a 3 inch split hem on each side.

Strictly made-to-order, the stock will be manufactured Mid November for a late November 2025 delivery date.
