HOCKNEY 85 CRICKET CAP

A sequel of sorts to last year's long-sold-out Hockney 84 cricket cap, this new creation is a rich, highly saturated affair full of positivity and the joys of spring.

1985 marked a year of new challenges for David Hockney. He continued to innovate his own art practice, combining his new found love for photography and integrating this into his painting process via collage and overlay. The BBC invited him to experiment for the first time with computerised art - using the new Quantel Digital paintbox, a programme developed for television graphics, using an electronic pen with a touchboard; a working method Hockney would continue to develop in the coming decades.

The year's work culminated in his highly sought after and collectible guest edited issue of French Vogue in December, featuring a Cubist style portrait of Celia Birtwell, and a plethora of content showcasing his evolving methods of art production.

One of my favourite photographs of the man, finds him facing away from the camera, a brightly coloured cricket cap tamping down his blonde locks, perhaps signalling this optimism and excitement for his continued growth and progress as a multidisciplinary artist.

Here is our faithful recreation of the cap in contrasting panels of yellow, orange, red and green melton wool with a mid blue felted topper. Made in England, by a traditional cricket wear maker, with a gently elasticated back for ease of fit.
