THE CAPRI SMOCK (OLIVE STRIPE)

We present our popular Artist Smock in a new iteration for our SS25 'BOATNIK' collection. The quintessentially coastal garment, beloved by artists, craftspeople and the fishermen and workers they were originally designed for.

Ours are made in a British workwear factory with a century plus pedigree and cut and sewn in soft washed ticking stripe cotton.

The inspiration comes from the first British 'streetwear' brand; Bill Green's 'Vince Man's Shop' which opened in London's West End in 1954. Green had been a 'beefcake' photographer and built up a mailorder clientele for both his prints of muscle men and a range of posing briefs. On holiday in the Mediterranean in 1952, Green admired the young French men in their 'existentialist' outfits of jeans and rollnecks, along with the matelots who filled the port towns. He was the first menswear designer in the UK to see the potential for fashionable clobber made from denim, ticking stripes and workwear fabrics. One of his most popular creations was the 'Capri Shirt' - seen here being modelled by a young Sean Connery.

Generously cut with a straight boxy fit, two front pockets, split side vents and a V neck collar. Soft and breathable enough to wear as a beach shirt, or worn layered over a rollneck to fend off maritime winds.

Available in washed Black stripe & Olive stripe colourways.
