THE CHANDIGARH RUGBY SHIRT

The Rugby Shirt is a quintessential piece of British kit with collegiate origins, and a staple of flexible leisurewear - able to stand in for an Oxford shirt under a sports coat or in place of a sweatshirt on a chilly evening.

For SS24's 'A New City' collection, we took inspiration from the founding of Chandigarh - a post-independence creation in the newly partitioned Punjab region of India; the building of which stood as a symbol of post-colonial confidence and a conference of Asian and European design and philosophy.

The colours we chose for the 'quartered' pattern of this season's rugby shirt are a direct reference to the painted panels Swiss / French architect Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, aka Le Corbusier, employed to enliven the concrete walls of the High Court building which was completed in 1956.

For manufacturers, we utilise the makers who supply the Oxbridge university teams and British Armed Forces, and employ their traditional baggy block. The body is a soft heavy gauge "Sportphlex' cotton mix cloth - an early performance fabric developed in the 1950s, finished with white herringbone cotton twill placket, split side hems, knitted cuffs and rubber buttons.

Limited to 40 pieces across the sizes, please find sizing information below. First 25 orders placed ship immediately, the remainder on week of June 7th.
