FLASH Fanzine
Our 24 page fanzine produced to promote the MADSEN SYLVESTER STUDIO exhibition FLASH: THE SCULPTURE AND MOVEMENT OF RON HITCHINS.
The exhibition considered the embodied life of East London dancer, sculptor, and fashion designer, Ron Hitchins (b. 1926 d. 2019). Hitchins engaged with various vocations over his lifetime that centred study, labour, and passion. Rather than languishing as a dilettante, Hitchins became a master of multiple artforms.
The FLASH zine is a critical commentary on the nature of the artworks in the exhibition. The catalogue features reflections on Hitchins’ life and work from art historian Thomas Ardill, dress historian Beatrice Behlen, exhibition co-curators Cyana Madsen and Anthony Sylvester, and British menswear designer John Simons. It also has a selection of beautiful, original prints of Hitchins dancing and at rest drawn from negatives held in MADSEN SYLVESTER STUDIO archive and new photos of key sites of Hitchins’ life in London.
Printed in full colour on 150g matte paper with 250g cover. 24pp, stapled. Limited to 25 copies.
